 | Electric
The term electric is used in fencing to refer to the use of the electrical scoring apparatus while fencing. Electric scoring aid is commonly used for fencing bouts these days. There are only a few "dry" tournaments being held, the majority is electric. When fencing "electric" the scoring machine lights up in the moment a fencer touches to opponent (or another surface). This is a low voltage system, in terms of the current "going out " to the fencer. Foils and epees are modified with a wire in the blade and with a connector for the body cord. There is also a special tip with a barrel and a spring loaded tip to depress when the hit arrives. For epee, an electric weapon is needed and a body cord. For foil, a weapon, a body cord and a lame. In saber the list is more extensive: weapon, body cord, lame, el. glove or cuff, el. mask, mask to jacket cord. Dry equipment is great for practice, lessons, paired drills etc. Saber uses the same blade for an electric and for a practice weapon. |
